Unifi Kenya delivers personal lending products from physical branch and digital channels,  utilising internally generated software and lending products backed by IT and data analytics teams  based in South Africa. Role Purpose: 

Ownership of the finance function, supporting strategic business execution, and ensuring  compliance and reporting accuracy. 

Responsibilities: 

  1. Manage the finance department and function of Unifi Kenya by: 
  • building an inclusive, efficient finance department 
  • monitoring and improving business and financial processes  
  • producing relevant and timely financial reports  
  • managing the financial health of the business  
  • ensuring that financial planning function across the organisation meets the highest  level of service 
  • develop strategies and plan for the long-term financial goals of the business ● develop key metrics to do branch/department specific analysis.  
  1. People Appointment and Development: 
  • Find, employ, retain and develop staff in pursuit of excellence 
  • Manage tasks and performance of the finance team 
  • Develop and coach the finance team to improve performance 
  1. Manage the collections department of Unifi Kenya by: 
  • building an inclusive, efficient collections department 
  • build strong relationships with all relevant stakeholders 
  • key metric measurables in place and ensure brilliant execution  
  1. Business Strategy Execution: 
  • Understand the business 
  • Lead efficient accounting and financial operations teams in execution of the business  strategy 
  • Manage financial projects to better operations and accounting  
  • Manage the business’ Treasury function 
  • Responsible for interaction with operations and operational software, driving changes  for the enhancement of the business.
  • Assist branches with resolution of client queries 
  • Engage and or negotiate with stakeholders for the benefit of Unifi 
  1. Reporting: 
  • Manage the preparation of timely month end close off and monthly management  accounts and balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Ensure timely completion of annual financial and external audits within group  timelines 
  • Manage the annual budgeting process to provide actionable insights. 
  • Provide accurate cashflow and financial forecasting monthly, giving insight and  guidance to business 
  • Guarantee accurate and timely daily/weekly reconciliations 
  • Work with group finance to refine and optimize financial accounting and reporting 
  1. Compliance: 
  • Ensure timely statutory submissions  
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory governing bodies and acts applicable to Unifi  Kenya 
  • Ensure compliance to IFRS and relevant accounting standards 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant tax legislation 
  1. Financial Controls and Modelling: 
  • Maintain cost control while avoiding approval bottlenecks by developing and  enforcing an efficient procurement process.  
  • Develop and maintain a financial model for Unifi Kenya’s loan book to manage cash  flow and budgeting 
  • Monitor and manage capex expenditure, marketing costs, and facilities budget ● Implement and oversee cost controls and tax compliance measures, including  managing litigation issues if they arise 
  • Adhere to group corporate governance and reporting procedures 
  • Identify risks, process flaws, and improvement opportunities, escalating,  documenting, implementing and enforcing as necessary 
  1. Analysis: 
  • Optimize tax strategies and capital structure efficiency 
  • Analyze financial results, monitor variances, identify trends, and recommend actions  to management 
  • Provide granular insight into branch performance as required 

Requirements: 

  • CPA(K), ACCA, CA or MBA preferred 
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in a similar role 
  • Strong independent work ethic with advanced problem-solving capabilities
  • Proficient in negotiating and managing stakeholder relationships 
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills 
  • Detail-oriented with robust analytical and numerical abilities 
  • Requires a logical and structured approach to finance 
  • Analytical thinker with quick decision-making skills 
  • Strong numerical and problem-solving abilities 
  • Experience using data, queries, Power BI etc. advantageous
