Unifi Kenya is a subsidiary of Unifi Africa and is recruiting a Finance Operations role to build, enhance, and sustain a high-performing financial environment that supports both the Finance function and the broader business. The ideal candidate will spearhead Unifi Kenya’s financial operations, be analytically adept, and have passion for African business. A healthy spirit of adventure and sense of humour would be helpful.
Main PurposeThe function has the main purpose of ensuring the complex accounting needs for the business. The duties include assuming a leadership role to guide accounting personnel in daily tasks, maintaining the Chart of Accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of the General Ledger (Trial Balance) of the company as well as the preparation of Balance Sheet reconciliations, Management Accounts and analysis for review.
Core rolesEnsuring accurate capture, maintenance and reconciliation of financial information. This role will work closely with the Finance Business Partner/FinOps Controller and FM to ensure processes are such that financial data is efficiently and completely recorded at all times. The role will require management of accounting staff as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain the Chart of Accounts in line with group guidelines and ensure proper structure within the accounting
system.
• Ensure the General Ledger and Trial Balance comply with IFRS, internal policies, and statutory requirements.
• Review and approve journals while ensuring appropriate segregation of duties.
• Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions with adequate supporting documentation.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure reconciling items are resolved within agreed timelines.
• Conduct analytical reviews of the Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet to identify risks, trends, or anomalies.
• Maintain departments, cost centres, and branch structures within the accounting system and ensure transactions
are correctly allocated.
• Support internal and external audit processes by preparing required documentation and financial analysis.
• Maintain the Fixed Asset Register including onboarding, disposals, transfers, and tagging of assets.
• Reconcile the Fixed Asset Register with the General Ledger and review depreciation calculations.
• Ensure accurate and timely preparation and submission of statutory returns and tax payments to the Kenya
Revenue Authority.
• Prepare regulatory returns and maintain company statutory registers and related records.
• Perform regular bank reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are identified and resolved.
• Ensure supplier invoices are accurately captured and supplier accounts reconciled monthly.
• Support supplier payment planning and ensure compliance with procurement approval processes.
• Perform complex accounting calculations including IFRS 16 lease accounting, loan facility amortisations, income
tax, and withholding tax calculations.
• Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Assist in analysing variances against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
• Support preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
• Provide financial data and analysis to management, funders, and other internal stakeholders as required.
• Assist with finance-related queries and ad-hoc analysis as required.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar finance role, ideally within a dynamic or high-growth environment.
• Strong financial reporting, analytical, and numerical skills.
• Ability to interpret complex financial data and present insights clearly.
• High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
• Experience working with accounting systems such as Xero, Netsuite, or similar platforms is an advantage.
