About Unifi

Boldly different. Fiercely human. Proudly African.

Unifi is redefining credit in Africa with simple, fast personal loans delivered through online, mobile and branch channels.  We make life easy for our clients across Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Tanzania. Unifi has conviction in the African continent and its people, and our products enable our clients to achieve even more.  As one of the fastest-growing lenders in Africa, we combine exceptional client service with the very best tech and data analytics.

Purpose of the role

The Accounting Clerk will report to the Accountant. You’ll keep a close eye on Unifi’s
bank accounts, mobile wallets and cash, making sure everything adds up and nothing slips through
the cracks. You’ll reconcile accounts, dig into anything that doesn’t look right, and work with our teams
to get issues sorted quickly. You care about getting the details right, ask questions, stay curious and
aren’t afraid to get stuck in.

Responsibilities
● Keep Unifi’s bank accounts, mobile wallets and NetSuite records accurately reconciled and
up to date.
● Make sure clearing and suspense items are dealt with quickly, investigating anything that
doesn’t look right rather than letting it sit
● Keep a close eye on daily and weekly bank balances and make sure our records match
what’s actually happening
● Help keep our reconciliation processes simple, clear and consistent so everyone knows what
needs to happen and when
● Work with our country's finance teams to understand and resolve differences or reporting
issues
● Work alongside Finance and IT when system issues are getting in the way of accurate
reconciliations
● Help maintain our automated allocation rules and step in with manual matching and postings
where needed
● Speak up early when you spot an error, unusual transaction, potential fraud or something that
just doesn’t make sense
● Help set up strong reconciliation processes as Unifi moves into new markets
● Take ownership of getting issues resolved, bringing in the right people when you need help
● Brings energy to the team and wants to help make the Finance department a place where
great people enjoy working

Requirements
● Grade 12 certificate with Accounting and/or Economics is required
● Studying towards or completed a finance-related diploma or degree is advantageous
● Some experience in bank reconciliations, cash management or a similar finance role
● Takes real ownership, cares about the details, brings high standards and speaks up early
when something is off track

● Comfortable working independently, but quick to ask for help or raise an issue when you need
to
● Able to work with people across different teams and cultures to get things done
● Comfortable learning and working with financial systems and reconciliation tools
● Organised and disciplined enough to stay on top of deadlines and the everyday basics
● High integrity and someone we can trust with sensitive information
● Excited to learn, grow and build a career in a business that’s doing something meaningful
across Africa
